Fort Worth Real Estate

The 17th-largest city in the United States and the fifth-largest city within the state, Fort Worth, Texas, is one of the two major cities anchoring the Dallas-Fort Worth area, commonly referred to as the Metroplex. The city encompasses nearly 300 square miles across Tarrant, Parker, and Denton counties, serving as the county seat for Tarrant County. Estimates taken in 2009 showed the city home to a population of more than 720,000, and it was projected to grow to 750,000 by the time of the census in 2010.

Fort Worth was founded in 1849 as an Army outpost on a bluff overlooking the Trinity River. Today it is a world-class city. Home values in Fort Worth range vastly, but the median home value in 2008 was estimated to be around $120,500, and residents' median household annual income was estimated at around $49,000.

Children who live in Fort Worth will mostly attend schools in the Fort Worth Independent School District, though there are more than a dozen other districts serving select portions of the city. The city is home to the state charter school, Pinnacle Academy of the Arts, as well as more than 20 private schools. Higher education institutes include the Art Institute of Fort Worth, Texas Christian University, the College of Saint Thomas More, Tarrant County College, Texas Wesleyan University, the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth, and the University of Texas at Arlington's Fort Worth campus.

The city has two airports, Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and Fort Worth Meacham International Airport. Its Trinity Railway Express provides rail service to connect with Dallas. American Airlines and AMR Corporation are headquartered in Fort Worth, as are Dickies, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, RadioShack, Pier 1 Imports, TPG Capital, XTO Energy, and many other companies. The city's Texas Motor Speedway is a NASCAR track in the far north part of the city. Activities and attractions are endless, from theaters and museums to a symphony orchestra and an opera, plus many of the state's finest golf courses.
