The Colony Real Estate Information

One of Denton County's larger cities, The Colony, Texas, is a popular suburban and residential community sitting on nearly 16 square miles. It has experienced a growth in its population of nearly 60 percent since 2000, with 2008 estimates showing the city now has more than 42,000 residents. Its citizens have an estimated median household income of $78,000, as of 2007, and real estate values for properties like a house or a condo average $135,000.

The community is located within the original Peters Colony lands, on the site of the Hedgcoxe War. Its development begun in 1969, when a new "dream city" modeled after Dallas began to be constructed, with mostly single-family homes grouped together as colonies. Today, the city is home to Pizza Inn's corporate headquarters, as well as an Edward Don distribution center.

Children in The Colony are assigned to schools within the the Lewisville Independent School District and Little Elm Independent School District. The Lewisville school district has constructed six elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school inside The Colony's city limits. The Colony also lies uniquely situated within the Collin County Community College District, unlike all other places in Denton County, and can access county residents rates there. The nearest hospital is five miles away in Carrollton.

Attractions here include Stewart Creek Park on Lewisville Lake, the Colony Community Center, The Colony Aquatic Park, The Colony Recreation Center, the Blue Sky Sports Center, Hawaiian Falls Water Park, The Tribute/Wynnwood Peninsula and Hidden Cove Park. The city maintains Hidden Cove Park, Eastvale Park and the Turner Soccer Complex and the Little League Complex. The 5 Star Athletic Complex was recently completed in 2003. Annual events include American Heroes: A Salute To Veterans, Liberty by the Lake, Bow-Wow Pow-Wow and Family Fright Night.
