Flower Mound Real Estate Information

An aptly named community that lies split among Denton and Tarrant counties on more than 43 square miles, Flower Mound, Texas, is a community that gets its name from a 12-acre mound in the southern part of town that is covered in wildflowers and is privately owned and thus protected from development. The city is home to a population estimated to be nearly 70,000, up from just over 50,000 in 2000.

European settlers are said to have arrived to the area as early as the 1840s, though the Flower Mound region was rural and not very highly populated throughout most of the 19th and early 20th centuries. It finally incorporated in 1961 so as to avoid an annexation by the city of Irving. Residents here have a relatively high standard of living, with a 2007 estimate of median household income at more than $105,000. Because of its recent growth in population, new real estate developments of all sorts have popped up across town, meaning most buyers will be able to easily find properties to suit their needs.

Most of the children who reside in Flower Mount are served by the Lewisville Independent School District, which has two high schools in Flower Mound, Edward S. Marcus High School and Flower Mound High School. Some on the outskirts are zoned in the Argyle and Northwest Independent School Districts. Private schools in the city and further out in the region include Liberty Christian School, Coram Deo Academy, Explorations Preparatory School and the Highlands School.

The city's top 10 employers include: Lewisville Independent School District; Town of Flower Mound; Stryker Communications; Best Buy Distribution and Service Center; HD Supply; Tom Thumb; Ivie & Associates ; Kroger; FUNimation Entertainment; and J. C. Penney. The community maintains almost 700 acres of parkland, with more than 30 miles of trails, as well as a community center with a pool, water park, indoor track and gymnasium. Artistic and cultural ventures here include the Flower Mound Chamber Orchestra and the Flower Mound Performing Arts Theatre.
