Not a city in and of itself but rather a planned unit development Irving, Texas, a suburb of Dallas, the Valley Ranch neighborhood is well known as being the site for the practice facilities of the Dallas Cowboys football team. The area was formerly home to the Dallas Stars hockey team's practice facilities as well, but they have since moved to Frisco, Texas.

Valley Ranch is named as such because it sits on a site that was once a ranch, and is below a large ridge, thus giving it the semblance of a valley. It is in the Trinity River floodplain but is protected by an extensive levee system on the eastern side separating the land and the river, so development is not a problem.

Children who live in the Valley Ranch area are assigned to either the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District if they live on the east side, or the Coppell Independent School District if they live on the west side. Though the community is located within Irving, its children are not sent to the Irving schools district schools. One elementary school is physically located within Valley Ranch, the Valley Ranch Elementary School.

Real estate choices here range from more than 4,000 single-family homes to 21 multi-family properties. There are nearly 150 small businesses and eight community centers in Valley Ranch, offering most of the necessities residents will come across in daily life, from doctors and dentists to veterinarians and groceries. The community has four city parks, including an aquatic center, in addition to three association parks.
