A neighborhood within Dallas, the Oak Lawn, Texas community lies immediately north of the downtown, in Dallas County. It is one of the wealthier areas of Dallas and takes up an area of approximately 12 square miles. The area's real estate consists of mostly older, single-family homes, but in recent years, there has been a boom in development of new properties, and now there are several high-rise apartment and condo building, particularly on McKinney Avenue and Turtle Creek Boulevard.

Some of the distinct neighborhoods within Oak Lawn include Cityplace, International Center, Knox Park, LoMac, Love Field, State Thomas and Turtle Creek. The area has two stops on the DART light rail system, one on the blue line and one on the red line. The area is known for its diversity and is home to and is known for its vibrant GLBT scene in its arts and entertainment districts. Oak Lawn also is contiguous with the popular Dallas Design District.

Parents living here will find their children zoned to one of four elementary schools, one middle and one high school in the Dallas Independent School District. Other education venues in Oak Lawn include the William B. Travis Academy/Vanguard for the Academically Talented and Gifted, the Holy Trinity Catholic School and the Dallas Junior Academy. Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children is found here and is a regional hospital known for its quality care for children.

Attractions and groups in Oak Lawn are aplenty, with choices like the New Texas Symphony Orchestra, the Oak Lawn Band, the Turtle Creek Chorale and the Women's Chorus of Dallas. There are more than two dozen churches and several community organizations and clubs, from drama and book clubs to sports teams and social gatherings. Robert E. Lee and Reverchon parks provide outdoor space for gathering.
