North Dallas Real Estate Information

The main communities thought to make up the North Dallas area of Texas include Prestonwood and Bent Tree, Preston Hollow and Bluffview. Bent Tree includes homes and apartment properties surrounding the Bent Tree Country Club. Prestonwood is a more suburban area, with ranch-style real estate and apartment buildings. Preston Hollow consists of older homes in established neighborhoods and Bluffview is an upscale area with high-value real estate. Suburban communities farther out that also are sometimes included in the North Dallas region include Carrollton, Farmers Branch, Highland Park, Richardson and University Park.a

Several corporate headquarters have relocated to the area in the last 20 years, making it a popular destination for those in the area to work. The average commute in the Dallas region is just 24 minutes. There are six major highways and interstates connecting the region, two major commercial airports, 130 bus routes, and a light rail system that is projected to have more than 50 miles of light rail service and almost 40 miles of commuter rail lines by 2010.

Wholesale/retail trade make up for 26 percent of the area's employment, while service businesses account for 21 percent, manufacturing makes up 14 percent and government employment. There are more than 30 hospitals and several outpatient clinics in the area. The region has more than 400 public parks on 23,000 acres, more than 60 lakes and reservoirs within 100 miles, and 39 private and 34 public golf courses. Shopping in the North Dallas area is centered around NorthPark Center, Valley View Center and the recently renovated Galleria Dallas.

Children living in the North Dallas region mostly attend institutes in the Dallas Independent School District, which operates 157 elementary, 61 secondary and 15 magnet and alternative schools. There are nearly 40 colleges and universities within 100 miles, including three University of Texas campuses and two community college districts.
