The community is quite middle class, and was measured at the time of the 2000 census to be home to a population of just over 2,000, though that population has undoubtedly grown since then, as Collin County is among the fastest growing counties in population in the country. the town has a low population density, of just over 400 people per square mile, and its median annual household income at the last census was around $65,000. The town has seen a build up of real estate in recent years, with many new high-value properties being built, ranging from as little as $150,000 up to $2 million.

Prosper is a small, rural community and it is just north of Frisco on State Highway 289. Its first white settlers arrived to the area in 1846, with two communities co-existing between 1850 and 1900, Rock Hill and Richland. When the St. Louis & San Francisco Railroad began to pass through the communities, they were forced to merge, which they did in March 1902, and chose the name Prosper in the hopes that that is what the town would do. Prosper was incorporated in 1914.

The Prosper Independent School District provides education for children in the village, with three elementary schools, a middle school and a high school. The city maintains seven community parks, two tennis courts and several ball fields for residents' enjoyment. The Prosper Community Library is available and provides media of different types for rental to residents. Each year, the community holds the Prosper Country Christmas celebration and festival, complete with a parade.
